Medicine Horse Labyrinth

The labyrinth is an ancient healing tool.  Hopi Indians used it, as did the ancient people on the island of Crete.  Many hospitals around the county are using labyrinths to relieve stress for doctors, nurses, and patients. The medicine wheel  is used for healing by Native peoples on this continent.  Spirit Horses of Montana put these two concepts together to create a unique and powerful healing tool. The Medicine Horse Labyrinth uses horse shoes to mark the paths. There are four quadrants, each painted in a medicine wheel colors corresponding to the four directions: red for the south, black for the west, white for the north, and yellow for the east.

Horses and Labyrinths

Horses have been used in labyrinths for a number of years.  However, this is the first labyrinth created with 8’ wide paths, making the use of horses more comfortable.  Additionally, this is the first labyrinth with paths marked by horseshoes.  There are nearly 4000 horseshoes marking the paths of the Medicine Horse Labyrinth.

Medicine Wheel Labyrinth

The use of the symbolism of the medicine wheel was the brainchild of Spirit Horses owner, Bobbie Cross Guns.  Her understanding of the power of the medicine wheel pushed her to created this labyrinth. Each quadrant of the labyrinth is painted in the colors of a medicine wheel and those quadrants lie in the four directions identified with the medicine wheel. The paths are eight feet wide, allowing for users to walk the labyrinth with a horse.

The Number 8

The paths of this labyrinth are 8 feet wide to accommodate horses and humans together.  The number 8 is significant in numerology.  The number 8 is associated with transformation and healing.  The Medicine Horse Labyrinth will provide its users with tremendous healing power.

Walking through the circle of the labyrinth, passing from one healing quadrant to the next, facing the buffalo jump or the Square Butte, leads to the most blissful peace imaginable.  Any stress you are experiencing rolls off you and on to the ground as magically as the  kiss of butterfly wings.
